January 16, 2020 Reply Ray Ark Speaking as an educator myself, I think there's a big difference between being qualified and being experienced, and I think a lot of impostor syndrome goes away when you have more experience (in my experience, lol). You are very well qualified to be a sex educator, but you might lack experience of actually doing it (at least face to face – you've been doing it for years on YouTube, but that will feel a lot different to being in a classroom). At some point you have to just get out there. Accept you will make mistakes and then learn from them. ❤ January 16, 2020 Reply Myles White This is such an amazing video! January 16, 2020 Reply Martha About defining success I've learned that humans tent to think once I do this then I'll be successful. It's called the Hedonic treadmill. January 16, 2020 Reply Vicki Harris I'm in the same quadrant as you but further down on the libertarian scale and about 2 squares to the right of you. That is an interesting test, I'd never heard of before. Definitely had a UK-ness about it, noticeable to me since I'm Canadian. Questions like porn and some education questions seemed odd to me. But I'm guessing are more relevant to someone in the UK.Anyway great video Hannah! January 16, 2020 Reply Blair Iris Definitely very left for me! January 16, 2020 Reply Laconicallity I'm left libertarian but almost dead center, one point left and one point down, which reflects how I vote – different parties based on the current platforms. Locally I tend to support a center or outlier party, provincially a left party, and federally right. January 16, 2020 Reply shesaysdisco RE: Dan’s farts — One time while we were driving out to his parents’ house, my partner had a “silent but deadly” fart and I legitimately thought that we had run over some kind of awful roadkill. A male housed with a female can breed with her to the point that she dies, and even two females housed together can become aggressive and hurt each other. It is so so so much safer to house them separately. Came home today and planned to sort out all the things I bought for my scrapbook of my trip. Have spent today with no energy or motivation watching youtube all day. Had to cave into it when normally I would beat myself up and remind myself it is okay. Also smack bang middle of that green square in the political compass. January 16, 2020 Reply Maja Filipovic you actually seem so happy and positive it’s contagious, it put me in a better mood just watching this💛 January 16, 2020 Reply Jana Blom My political views are very similair to yours. I'm just al little more Liberterian and a little more central left. But that might be a language bariere thing or the fact that I live in the Netherlands instead of the UK. It's funny that you're re-reading The Subtle Knife currently because I just finished re-reading The Golden Compass and started The Amber Spyglass haha January 17, 2020 Reply Jacqui Z. January 17, 2020 Reply SadieMayB university of birmingham first year here!!! can confirm that saying yes is KEY! January 17, 2020 Reply Shaye Eller First off, you have EXCELLENT taste in Hamilton songs! Now, about imposter syndrome. I agree with one commenter that sometimes what it takes is time – to gain more experience and feel more confident in what you’re doing. However, one thing that really fast tracked that feeling for me was directing a play. Now, obviously, this won’t work for lots of people because not everyone is a theater artist (and not all theater artists can/want to direct.) But what I took from that experience was familiarity with what it felt like to make a decision and see it carried through without a lot of time spent on *~discussion~*. (Talking more about the tech end, as actors gonna actor and there is often lots of discussion there, as it should be.) People would come to me with a question, I would tell them what to do and they would go do it. YOU HAVE NO IDEA HOW GOOD THAT FELT! The play was a success and a few months later I really started to notice that I had a lot more confidence in my day job and I felt like a fraud on the inside way less often. What I think can be taken from that as a practical step is that if you’re able to take on a project in a field you have reasonable proficiency in, and in which your decisions would effectively be unquestioned, I think that can help a lot, especially after it’s successful conclusion. What that project is really will depend on the person’s interests and skills. But I think this experience can be adapted to almost anyone. Failing that, it’s okay to just sit with it. You have imposter syndrome, but you’re faking it and maybe it doesn’t feel good on the inside, but it’s okay to feel our feelings. We’re really quick to try to explain or improve or forget our negative emotions, but sometimes you have to instead forgive yourself for feeling this way. Understand that this feeling is largely held by women and girls and that it’s a product of the patriarchy. I saw a video in which MICHELLE FREAKING OBAMA talked about dealing with imposter syndrome, and man, if she feels it then maybe that will help a few folks understand that the way we see ourselves is not always accurate. And that we don’t have to beat ourselves up for not having the big picture. January 17, 2020 Reply Catherine Auld Great video Hannah. I really like your earrings – where are they from? January 17, 2020 Reply FractalPandas I’m also a left libertarian!
